BSC Residential, LLC is owned and operated by Steven Clear. Steven worked his first construction job in the late 80s before he was legally allowed to work. He was paid $5 an hour to do so. This was possible because his father owned and operated a residential roofing and siding company based in his hometown in North Central Indiana.
Steven worked for his father part time during high school mostly in the summers. After graduating from high school he joined the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA). After seven years working on large-scale industrial construction projects he joined a Carpenter’s Union in Kokomo, Indiana, as an apprentice. During this 4-year apprenticeship program, Steven moved to Indianapolis, IN, and transferred his union membership to a local agency.
The carpenter’s apprenticeship program requires its members to participate in quarterly classroom training combined with hands-on projects at the regional training center. Additionally, apprenticeship members are expected to work as subordinates to full-scale journeymen in the field. Steven successfully completed the apprenticeship program and was a full-scale journeyman himself for a time.
Because of his varied experience, Steven was given the opportunity to work as a crew leader and job superintendent for a general contracting firm in Nashville, TN. He took this opportunity and moved to “Music City.” He stayed in Nashville until the start of the recession in 2009 when the construction industry experienced record high unemployment numbers. In an effort to weather the storm, Steven made the decision to satisfy a lifelong goal of earning a college degree.
In May of 2010, Steven returned to Indianapolis, IN, where he enrolled at IUPUI. Steven began contracting small residential construction projects throughout the year to supplement his savings and pay his way through school. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 2014 as a Philosophy major and English minor.
After a brief but much needed break following graduation, Steven turned his part-time source of income into BSC Residential, LLC. Steven has always looked for ways to improve himself both on the job and in life. He enjoys the work that he performs and looks forward to making happy customers by doing quality work on every job he takes.
